For this track, I was looking to break out of the static pattern of music making I’d fallen into. I wanted to try new methods of sampling, and in this case built a dense loop, then resampled and sliced it to create the main chord bed. I utilized some DnB style drums which was a bit outside my normal approach for percussion, and more than anything let the track guide me.
The technique for this track seemed to fit perfectly with the mood I was feeling in my personal life—stuck, static, unchanging. That’s where the title comes from, trying to escape the stasis of quarantine, creative block, overthinking, etc.
The entire song was composed using the Octatrack and Digitone; even the main sample was made using just loops from the Digitone. After a couple patterns were composed, I took it into Ableton where I did some arranging and mangling and then it was sent off to Ramon Fassina (Dissolve in Sepia) for mixing and mastering.
